COP30: Education at the Core of Climate Resilience
A High-Level Ministerial Roundtable on Green Education at COP30 heard that while education is vital to climate resilience, greater coordination and financing are needed to make this a reality. Alice Vogas, Programme Director at the COP30 Presidency, highlighted two priority areas: climate literacy for teachers, and the development of skills and technical training for young people.
UNICEF reported that 242 million students worldwide had their education disrupted by extreme weather events in 2024. In Brazil alone, 1.17 million students were affected by floods, droughts, or heavy smoke.
