A new report – Heat-Proof Education in Latin America and the Caribbean – has highlighted the impact of extreme heat on education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The report’s projections show that, over the next 50 years, more than 40% of schools, 36% of students, and 35% of teachers will be exposed to 70–80 days above the critical threshold of 26.7°C during a school year.

The report was published by the Inter-American Development Bank and notes that extreme heat has yet to become a priority in the region’s education agenda. It also showcases solutions and focuses on how to plan and finance educational resilience to extreme heat.
